From a young age, Lauren Scoopo realized how art could tell a story. She quickly yearned to learn how to convey a message effectively to an audience. From growing up in the arts, through schooling and working, to now pursuing a graduate degree, Lauren has found herself in a position to make a difference through her work.
From Crayola to Adobe
At two years old, her mother decided to enroll her in dance classes. Even in her toddler brain, Lauren knew she loved being involved in anything creative. Books on drawing, painting kits, and colored pencils filled her childhood.
Lauren attended an arts magnet middle school, where she took classes focused on various art forms. It was at this school that she solidified her goal of working in the creative field. When she got to high school, she took a class that used Photoshop, and being introduced to this platform opened up new doors of possibility.
Double the major, double the fun
This passion for creating led her to Quinnipiac University, where she double-majored in graphic design and advertising.
Lauren drew inspiration from her favorite artists, like Harry Styles and Queen, and how they use graphics to represent and market their music. She studied how her favorite brands advertised their products and how they presented their messaging to the public. Her majors and the media she consumed worked together to teach her not only to create, but also how to communicate a message to an audience effectively.
Wait, this is real life?
After graduation, Lauren got a job as an Art Director at an e-commerce advertising agency. This was definitely a pinch-me moment for her. In this role, she works with large brands to shape how their products are portrayed to the public. She hoped that everything she had learned up until this point had prepared her to actually influence an audience.
A wise man once said…
“With great power comes great responsibility”

(Sorry, that was cheesy)
Class is (back) in session
There is an obligation for a designer not only to create beautiful art but also meaningful work. As a society, we are bombarded with images and calls to action pulling us in multiple directions. With only a few moments of their audience’s attention, the designer needs to be strategic in their approach, not only to get the message across but also to be beneficial to the viewer.
Designers play a key role in how information is communicated to consumers at any level. Consumers of knowledge, products, and entertainment alike put their trust in the media to not lead them astray. Lauren always recognized this duty, but after working in the field, it became even more emphasized.
After being away from Quinnipiac University for 3 years, Lauren has decided to return to earn her master’s in Interactive Media and Communications. With this program, she hopes to improve her skills and learn new methods to implement into her career as a designer.
